Children Dentistry

Dental Cleaning (Prophylaxis) during a dental visit, the dental assistant or hygienist will first review your child’s medical history with you. This is to ensure that Dr. Jyoti Sachdeva and her staff is updated on the general health of your child so that we may review any issues that may concern your child’s dental health. Then your child’s mouth will be inspected for overall oral health.  Next, your child’s teeth will be thoroughly prepared to remove plaque and calculus (hard tarter deposits), which can cause voids and gum disease. After the cleaning, fluoride will be applied to the teeth to help protect and fortify the weak areas against decay.  For a fit child, Pediatric Dentistry endorses a visit to the pediatric dentist at least every six months to assess your child’s oral health and growth.  However, if your child has superior needs or is more inclined to dental caries, the dentist may endorse more frequent visits to more carefully manage your child’s oral health.

Early (Interceptive) Orthodontic Care

It's never too initial to keep an eye on your child's oral growth. Dr. Jyoti Sachdeva can identify malocclusion (crowded or crooked teeth) or bite hitches and actively interfere to leader the teeth as they emerge in the mouth.  Interceptive orthodontic treatment can avoid more wide treatment later.  Dr. Jyoti Sachdeva checks the progress of your child’s bite and jaw development with routine dental inspections.  This early assessment of your child’s teeth may prevent extensive orthodontic work in his/her future.

Cavities (Caries)

Tooth decay (caries) is a progressive disease that often instigates in very young children.  Bacteria that normally live in the mouth react with sugars from foods and drinks to create acid that slowly eats away at the enamel of your child’s teeth and can also damage delicate gum tissue. With the loss of enamel, weak points in the teeth form.  These weak areas become cavities– which left alone can lead to irreparable nerve damage and the necessary early extraction of your child’s tooth.

Again, early treatment is the key.  As soon as a cavity is recognized, your pediatric dentist can repair the tooth using tooth-colored fillings.  If the cavity is too deep, a pulpotomy nerve treatment and stainless steel crown or extraction of the tooth may be needed. Effective brushing and flossing, the proper use of fluoride, and a balanced diet can help minimalize the amount of decay to help your child have a happy, cavity-free smile!
